How did you react having to pitch your idea to a group ?
I always like to present my work to other people because there point of view is always interesting, but the first time I struggled a bit with the time, I didn't realize that one minute could pass so quickly and started to much going into details.
How could you improve your pitch technique ?
I want to expand my English vocabulary, and I will by reading more English books and by listening to various podcasts. For next speech I will also only concentrate on the capital information I need to communicate to my audience.
In what does your final idea meet the brief ?
my final idea consisted of an unisexe suit that would cover the body parts that have not much hair ( the face, the feet , the hands, the posterior...) with hair. And that would remove the hair from the actual hairy parts ( the eyebrows, the head, the private parts, under the armpits).
It meets the brief because it fights against beauty ethics that have been put on the human body since centuries. The hair " Expands" on the body and free itself from the place that we set up as normal for it to be. It shows a different type of the human, accepting parts of his body that he was use to hide with the hair. It is a suit that unites with the idea of feminism, meaning equality. Hair that would be equal for all different sexes.
Text
hair in certain places takes on a completely different meaning when it comes to women, and we could thank the beauty industry for that. They practically forced a pink razor into our hands during the turn of the 20th century, urging modern women that bobbed their hair and thought themselves metropolitan that this was the new normal. During a time where just the term "underarm" would call for smelling salts, splashing smooth pits across magazines and encouraging women to worry about them was a huge turning point. But was it for fashion? Was it for the pleasure of primping and playing at a vanity mirror? The way history tells it, it was all about dollar signs. Below is the sneaky history of shaving, and how the beauty industry played the long con when it came to the woman's razor.
3/09 : REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. I decided to concentrate on the theme of the hair, and after today's lessons I started paying attention to people's hair in the street. It was amazing to see how every person has an unique haircut and hairstyle, but also hair consistence. the research I did for my inspiration was mainly by looking at people's hair. I would like also to go to an hair salon and observe how the hairs are treated. and of course go to the king's cross library to do some researches there.
2. I'm am looking for the unseen, something that doesn't exist yet. I would like to use the hair, a material growing out of us, that we are self-producing, as the principal tool for this theme. The perception of it can be very different , eithert we want to hide or erase it from our body, but when it comes to the head it becomes an obsession and a statement.
3. I have the feeling I what to use more this material, to try to recreate it and play with, to transform it in different consistency's. Putting on different objects and designs, making a new symbol out of it.
4. As I'm very driven from inside, my ideas come very fast, it was great to see the reaction of sharing them.
